Clinical Study Overview
One-Year Clinical Validation Study
From August 2024 to August 2025, SnailSleep® partnered with the International Medical Department of a professional hospital to conduct a comprehensive one-year clinical study on non-invasive, digital sleep apnea screening. The research focused on evaluating a smartphone application using advanced acoustic and motion monitoring technology to detect Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
Study Methodology & Validation
A certified medical-grade home sleep monitor (BMC YH-600) served as the reference standard for validation, ensuring clinical accuracy and reliability.
180 participants were carefully screened and approved by physicians, ensuring representative and reliable study population.
Over the course of two nights of parallel testing, 180 participants—all screened and approved by physicians—completed comprehensive home-based monitoring sessions. This rigorous approach yielded a robust dataset for validation, ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the findings.
Clinical Validation Results
Outstanding Performance Metrics
Results demonstrated that among users identified by the SnailSleep app as having moderate to severe OSA, over 95% were confirmed by the professional-grade device, indicating a remarkably high positive predictive value (PPV). This level of accuracy represents a significant advancement in smartphone-based health monitoring technology.
The algorithm also showed strong alignment with clinical devices across multiple critical parameters:
- Apnea Event Detection: Precise identification of breathing interruptions
- Snoring Severity Assessment: Accurate evaluation of snoring intensity and patterns
- Sleep Stage Estimation: Reliable classification of sleep phases
- Respiratory Pattern Analysis: Comprehensive monitoring of breathing patterns
Clinical Significance & Impact
These findings highlight the clinical reliability and real-world feasibility of SnailSleep's contactless, app-based technology as a scalable solution for at-home OSA risk screening.
The clinical validation results represent a breakthrough in digital health technology, demonstrating that smartphone-based monitoring can achieve medical-grade accuracy in detecting sleep apnea. This advancement has significant implications for:
Making OSA screening accessible to millions worldwide without requiring expensive medical equipment or clinical visits.
Enabling early identification of OSA risk factors, potentially preventing serious health complications.
Technology Innovation & Future Implications
This clinical validation represents a significant milestone in the evolution of digital health technology. The ability to achieve medical-grade accuracy using only a smartphone's built-in sensors opens new possibilities for:
- Remote Healthcare: Enabling healthcare providers to monitor patients remotely
- Population Health: Facilitating large-scale sleep health screening programs
- Personalized Medicine: Providing individualized sleep health insights
- Cost Reduction: Reducing healthcare costs through early detection and prevention
The clinical study results validate SnailSleep's position as a leader in innovative sleep health technology, demonstrating that advanced AI algorithms combined with smartphone sensors can deliver clinical-grade accuracy in sleep apnea detection.
